Growing Catnip In Your Garden

Catnip is an easy to grow herb that is not only a favorite of cats everywhere, but also has many uses for humans. It is a perennial herb, and once you get an established planting of catnip, it will reappear every year, making it a favorite for home herb gardens. In fact it is so prolific that you might want to grow it in its own area so that that it doesn’t overrun other areas of your herb garden. It can also be grown indoors in pots, so that you can have some fresh catnip available year-round.

There are many uses for catnip, both for cats as well as for humans. Catnip can be dried and used for making cat toys, as cats usually go absolutely wild over the scent of catnip. However, many people don’t realize that catnip leaves can also be used as a culinary herb, and when steeped in water produces a mint flavored tea that is said to have a calming effect on those who drink it, and is good to drink before bedtime. It can also be used as the basis for a refreshing iced tea. Catnip can also be used in the bath, providing a wonderful mint aroma to the bath water, which is also soothing to skin irritations.

Lawn Care

If you care about your lawn as much as I do, then you need some basic lawn care tips too. First off, you need to know how and when to fertilize your grass. Lawn fertilization is the foundation of any healthy turf space.

Secondly, you need to know how to cut your lawn the right way. Cut the lawn tall during the spring and summer months. It’s also a myth that you should cut your lawn short just before winter. Honestly, you can cut it an inch shorter if you want, but that is not necessary. If you really want to do the right thing, then cut your lawn shorter on the very first cut of the year in the very early Spring. Other than that, you grass should be cut long, like around three inches or even four inches each cutting.

Finally, you need to water your lawn the right way. Lawn watering is vitally important all during the season, but especially during the hot dry summer months. Proper grass watering can make all the difference.
